IBAU Appoints Christopher Bakesiga as Acting CEO
The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) has appointed Christopher Bakesiga Mugisha as Acting Chief Executive Officer, with the association expressing confidence in his experience and institutional knowledge to drive strategic growth and strengthen services for Uganda’s insurance brokerage sector.

The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) has appointed Christopher Bakesiga Mugisha as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, marking a new leadership phase for the umbrella body representing licensed insurance brokerage firms in the country.

The appointment was announced by the association on Tuesday through a public notice, with the governing body saying Bakesiga’s experience will help guide the organisation’s strategic growth and improve service delivery within Uganda’s insurance broking fraternity.

“We proudly announce the appointment of Bakesiga Christopher Mugisha as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU),” the association said.

It added: “We look forward to a new chapter of purposeful leadership, strategic growth, and continued service to Uganda’s insurance broking fraternity.”

Bakesiga takes on the role after serving as IBAU’s Business Manager since October 2019, where he oversaw operations and supported initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s insurance brokerage industry.

His elevation comes after nearly seven years of service at the association, giving him extensive institutional knowledge and experience working with Uganda’s insurance brokerage firms.

As Business Manager, Bakesiga played a key role in implementing the association’s operational agenda while working closely with its 58 licensed insurance brokerage firms. He also promoted teamwork, professional development, and collaboration within the organisation.

Describing his leadership approach, Bakesiga has emphasised building strong teams and encouraging innovation and continuous learning.

“A results-driven leader, I focus on inspiring and empowering my team to exceed expectations by fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning,” he said on his professional profile.

Before joining IBAU, Bakesiga worked as a Technical Assistant at the Uganda Insurers Association from January 2014 to September 2019, where he gained experience in insurance industry operations and stakeholder engagement.

He also previously worked at Dubai Airports as a Team Leader for Service Staff at Terminal 3 between August 2011 and October 2012, overseeing customer care operations and supporting passenger service management.

Academically, Bakesiga holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Makerere University Business School and a Certificate of Proficiency in General Insurance from the Insurance Training College.

IBAU is the professional umbrella body representing licensed insurance brokerage companies in Uganda. The association advocates for policies that strengthen the insurance sector, promotes professional standards among brokers, supports insurance awareness, and helps consumers understand insurance products and claims processes.
